Sophia Mason, PhD, RN, MBA, FNP, CNP-P

Dr. Sophia Mason is a board certified nurse practitioner who is skilled in evaluating children, teens and adults and prescribing and managing psychiatric medications. Dr. Mason has practiced in a variety of settings including outpatient, inpatient, emergency rooms, consultation services and a transitional shelter for young women. She is an expert in crises and suicidal behaviors among individuals and families who seek their services through the emergency departments and inpatient units at various hospitals. At the New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, she supervises the crisis care that is provided for individuals and their families, and she determines the disposition for each individual.

With more than a decade of clinical expertise with underserved populations in urban settings. Dr. Mason’s dissertation highlighted the social determinants of health variables as defined by the World Health Organization in her research. In addition, her cultural acumen is well developed and often used in her practice. She is also experienced in assessing psychiatric symptoms and diagnoses across a diverse population of people, representing many countries, socio-economic statuses, and health beliefs and practices.

Dr. Mason obtained her nurse practitioner degree from NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing and her PhD from Capella University, Minneapolis, MN. While studying for the PhD, Dr. Mason also completed all requirements for the Masters of Business Administration (MBA) Degree at Frostburg State University, Maryland.
